Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro like the name points out is the pro version of the standard Redmi Note 8. This pro version comes with some slight improvements and spec bump in other to earn itself the “Pro” in its name.

Compared to the Redmi Note 8, the Redmi Note 8 Pro sports a slightly bigger display, a different chipset with up to 8GB of RAM, 4,500mAh battery with fast charging and a 64MP main camera. Let’s see what else make this the “Pro” version.

Redmi Note 8 Pro sports almost the same design as the non-pro version with glass at the back and at the front. However, the cameras, four to be exact, are now at the top centre on the device’s back lined up vertically with the LED flash by the side and a fingerprint sensor below.

Redmi Note 8 Pro is also a little bit taller with a slightly bigger screen compared to the non-pro variant. The 6.53-inch display is an IPS LCD panel with an FHD+ (1080p) resolution and a 395 pixel per inch density. It reaches up to 500nits of brightness and supports HDR contents.

Redmi Note 8 Pro weighs a total of 200g thanks to the massive battery on the inside with an 8.8mm measurement in thickness. Colour options available for this device are Black, Red, Blue and White.

Camera Review

At the back of the device, we have a quad camera setup. This comprises of a main 64MP camera with an f/1.9 aperture and PDAF, an 8MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and two 2MP cameras; one being a dedicated macro camera and the other being a depth sensor with both cameras having an f/2.4 aperture.

There is also an LED flash for the rear cameras. Other features of the rear camera include HDR, Panorama and the ability to shoot 2160p videos at 30fps, 1080p videos at 30/60/120fps and 720p videos at 960fps (Slo-mo) with gyro-EIS.

As for selfies, a single 20MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture takes care of that. The front-facing camera also has HDR, Panorama can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps too.

Hardware and Software

For the Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi decided to go with MediaTek for the SoC. They went with the gaming-focused Mediatek Helio G90T Chipset. This chipset which is made on the 12nm node comes with an octa-core processor clocked at 2.05 alongside a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU for graphics.

For multitasking, there is either 6GB or 8GB of RAM depending on the configuration you choose. The 6GB RAM variant comes with either 64GB or 128GB of internal Storage while the 8GB RAM variant comes with only 128GB of internal storage. All storage here are UFS 2.1.

As expected from a Xiaomi device, it runs it’s proprietary Miui 10 Skin which is based on Android 9.0 Pie.

Battery and Connectivity

Redmi Note 8 Pro have been fitted with a massive 4,500mAh battery which supports up to 18W of fast battery charging. Speaking of charging, it can be done through the USB Type-C port on board.

Other features of this device include 4G LTE connectivity, dual-band WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, Bluetooth, GPS, IR Blaster, NFC, FM radio and the dated 3.5mm jack.

Redmi Note 8 Pro starts at $230 and is already available on various online stores as well as offline stores in different regions.

In Nigeria, the Redmi Note 8 Pro costs N83,000 Naira for the 6GB/64GB Version and the most specced one is priced at N90,000 Naira
