Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Specs, Features and Price

Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi, recently announced the Redmi Note 8; the successor to the Redmi Note 7. The new smartphone comes as a slight upgrade to its predecessor with both sporting similar Specs with just some additional stuff.

Just like the Redmi Note 7, the new Redmi Note 8 has a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ resolution, a 4,000mAh battery with an 18W fast charging and runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box laced with Miui 10. Unlike its predecessor, it has four cameras and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. Let’s see what else is new.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 has a pretty similar design to its predecessor with a Corning gorilla glass 5 at the back and front coupled with an aluminium frame. The back of the device is packed with four cameras located at the top left side with an LED flash beside it and a fingerprint sensor at the centre.

Flipping the device reveals the display. It has a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ (1080p) Resolution, 409 pixels per inch density and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The display has a waterdrop notch cutout for the single front-facing camera with a very small chine down below and minimal bezels on the sides.

Overall, the device weighs 190grams, measures 8.4mm in thickness and comes in just three colour options to choose from; Neptune Blue, Moonlight White and Space Black.

Camera Review

This device right here has a total of five cameras, four of which are at the rear side. The one at the front, tucked in the waterdrop notch up top is a single 13MP camera with am f/2.0 aperture and equipped with features such as HDR, Panorama and the ability to shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.

At the back lies four cameras, The first and main one is a 48MP camera with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF. The second one is an 8MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture while the third and four one is a 2MP dedicated macro camera with am f/2.4 aperture for taking shots/videos of objects up close and a 2MP depth sensor for portraits.

The rear camera is also equipped with HDR and panorama as well as an LED flash for photos/videos in a low light environment. It can also shoot 2160p videos at 30fps, 1080p videos at 30/60/120fps with gyro-EIS.

Hardware and Software

Redmi Note 8 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset. This chipset is made on the 11nm node with an octa-core processor clocking speeds of up to 2.0GHz paired with an Adreno 610 GPU for gaming. This is hooked up to different RAM and storage options for you to choose from.

It comes with either 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, 4GB of RAM with 64GB/128GB of storage or 6GB of RAM with 64GB/128GB of storage. You can also expand the storage further through the dedicated MicroSD card slot available which can accommodate up to 256GB of additional storage.

This device runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box with Miui 10 slapped on top as expected.

Battery and Connectivity

Redmi Note 8 has a pretty standard 4,000mAh battery and giving the 11nm the SoC is made on, it should be able to comfortably get you through the day on a full charge. The battery also supports18W fast charging for quick refills. Charging is done through the USB Type-C which also supports USB OTG.

Other features of the Redmi Note 8 includes 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, Dual-band WiFi, WiFi direct, WiFi hotspot, GPS, IR blaster, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack.
