Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi has announced an entry-level smartphone – Redmi 8A.
The Redmi 8A is an ideal device for beginners or first-time users and priced just under $100. It comes with a bigger 6.2″ IPS LCD display compared to its predecessor – Redmi 7A.
The display features 19:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1520 pixels resolution and 271 PPI density. Protecting the display is Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is great for a phone of this price range.
The chipset remains unchanged, as the Redmi 8A is powered by the same Snapdragon 439 SoC seen on its predecessor. The chip is coupled with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and a storage option of 32GB. microSD slot is available for additional storage up to 512GB.
At the camera department, the entry-level device comes with a single 12MP Sony IMX363 main camera and an 8MP selfie camera. Both cameras are capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. There is no fingerprint reader available, but users can use Face unlock for biometric security.
The device will run on Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 custom skin on top. According to Xiaomi, it will receive the newest MIUI 11 soon. The battery is one of the highlight of this phone or probably its best feature. The device houses a gigantic non-removable Li-Po 5,000 mAh battery. You don’t have to worry about long hours of charging as it supports 18W fast charging and USB Type-C port.
The Redmi 8A will be available for purchase in Sunset Red, Ocean Blue and Midnight Black body colours. Sales will start on the 30th of September in India through Flipkart and Xiaomi’s India website. The 2/32GB memory option will go for $91. While the 3/32GB option will cost $98.
