YouTube Music to replace Play Music Starting with Android 10 Devices

YouTube Music is the latest app to join the list of pre-installed apps on Android. Sadly, it takes the place of Google Play Music.

This move will take effect on all devices running on Android 10 out of the box according to the company.

Prior to this move, Android users were required to download YouTube Music from the Play Store. The app is also expected to come preloaded on any upcoming device that ships out with the Android 9 Pie.

YouTube Music is a subscription-based music platform and will feature official albums, singles, videos, remixes, live performances and lots more. User can opt for the free version of the music service but will have to deal with ads. To get rid of the ads, you’ll need to pay $9.99/monthly for the premium version.

Lovers or listeners of Google Play Music will still be able to enjoy the platform. But they have to download it separately from the Play Store.

This news shouldn’t surprise many though. Since the release of YouTube Music, Google has said the music service will ultimately replace the Play Music and acts their only subscription-based music service.

If you’re already on “YouTube Red”, you automatically have access to “YouTube Premium”. The new YouTube Premium is just YouTube Red and more. One subscription of $9.99/monthly covers everything on YouTube without ads such as videos, originals, music e.t.c.
