Google has officially unveiled its second-generation foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Building on its initial entry into the foldable market in 2022, this latest device has considerable improvements. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has many characteristics with the recently introduced Pixel 9 series, which includes the regular, Pro, and Pro XL variants. Google’s latest smartphone, which competes directly with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, OnePlus Open, and Vivo X Fold 3, is poised to make an impact in the foldable category.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a more sophisticated appearance than its predecessor, which is distinguished by a smaller aspect ratio. Its larger external screen makes it look more like a conventional smartphone. It features rounded sides for a pleasant grip, just like the Pixel 9 series. Google draws attention to the device’s build, which combines an aerospace-grade, high-strength aluminium alloy skin with a multi-alloy steel chassis. The phone has a rectangular camera island on the back with two pill-shaped cutouts that house the sensors. On the right side are the power and volume controls; the power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner. Notably, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a tabletop mode and folds entirely flat for flexible usage.
The external display on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 6.3 inches, framed by symmetrical bezels, and features a center-aligned punch-hole cutout. The AMOLED screen delivers an FHD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. Inside, the foldable reveals an expansive 8-inch Super Actua Flex panel, matching the OnePlus Open in size. This display offers a resolution of 2,152 x 2,076 pixels, a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 2,700 nits.
In terms of photography, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is equipped with a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10.8MP telephoto unit with 5x optical zoom and 20x Super Res Zoom. Both the internal and external displays feature 10MP selfie cameras. As with the Pixel bar phones, this foldable includes a suite of advanced camera features and intelligent editing tools.
The Tensor G4 chipset powers the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s internal operations, while the Titan M2 processor offers improved security. The smartphone has 512GB of storage and up to 16GB of RAM. It is powered by a 4,650mAh battery that supports both wireless and 21W cable charging. Like the Pixel 9 series, this phone, which runs Android 14, is eligible for seven years of OS updates. Along with a number of safety features including Emergency SOS, accident detection, and crisis warnings, it also has Gemini Nano, Magic Eraser, Pixel Screenshots, and Add Me functions.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is available in Obsidian and Porcelain colors. Pricing starts at $1,799 (€1,899/Rs 1,72,999) for the 256GB variant, with the 512GB model priced at $1,999 (€2,029). Pre-orders begin today, with the device set to go on sale starting September 4.
