Huawei Honor 20 and 20 Pro Announced with 4 Rear Cameras

Huawei’s Sub-brand, Honor released two new smartphones – Honor 20 and 20 Pro amidst Google recent ban. Just like every other smartphone maker, the standard one will be as close as possible to the pro/plus variant with just some extra new features on the Pro Variant. This is the case here as both devices have the same 6.26-inch display with a punch-hole cutout for the camera, a Kirin 980 SoC on the inside, a quad camera setup at the rear and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric verifications. Honor 20 and 20 Pro has the same 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ 1080p resolution, 412 pixels per inch density and a 19:9 aspect ratio with a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera. As expected, the device is made of glass at the front protecting the display and also at the back with aluminium frame all around. The back of both devices are packed with quad camera setup and there is no fingerprint at the back, neither is it underneath the display – it is side-mounted at the right side of the device.

Overall, the Honor 20 and P20 Pro weighs 174grams/182grams and measures 7.9mm/8.4mm in thickness respectively thanks to the different battery size inside the two devices. Colour options available for the Honor 20 are Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and Icelandic white, while the Pro has just two; Phantom Blue and Phantom Black. Both devices also have a dual SIM card slot with no MicroSD card which means no storage expansion here.

Huawei Honor 20 and 20 Pro Camera Review

Both the Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro have Four cameras each. However, they both differ in terms of specifications. The Honor 20 Pro has a main 48MP camera with an f/1.4 aperture, PDAF and OIS which is accompanied by a 16MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture, 8MP telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and lastly, a 2MP dedicated macro camera for capturing objects up close. The 8MP telephoto camera also has PDAF, OIS and 3x optical zoom.

Honor 20 still keeps the 48MP main shooter but now with an f/1.8 aperture, the same 16MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a dual 2MP camera with one being a depth sensor and the other being a dedicated Macro camera. Features on both devices camera are also the same; LED flash for low light shots, Panorama, HDR and the ability to shoot 2160p videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at both 30 and 60fps with gyro-EIS.

As for selfies, both devices are rocking the same 32MP shooter taken a small portion on the top left Corner of the display. It also has HDR and csn only shoot 1080p videos at 30fps with gyro-EIS.

Hardware and Software

Both devices are using Huawei’s own flagship SoC – The HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC which is a new SoC based on the 7nm architecture with an octa-core processor clocked at 2.6GHz alongside a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU for games. Speaking of games, both devices are going to have the Game Turbo 3.0 software optimisation for a smoother Experience in supported games. Honor 20 has 6GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage while the pro variant has 8GB of RAM and double the storage at 256GB.

Both devices have no MicroSD card slot so no additional storage here. As expected, they both run the latest Android 9.0 Pie out of the box which is laced with the Magic 2.1 UI.

Battery and Connectivity

Although they both have the same display size, they have different battery sizes lighting up the display. The Honor 20 has a slightly smaller 3750mAh battery capacity with support for only 18W fast battery charging while the Pro has 4,000mAh battery with up to 22.5W fast battery charging. No 5G here but they both have 4G LTE, dual band WiFi, WiFi hotspot, WiFi direct, Bluetooth, GPS, infrared port and a USB Type-C port through which charging and file transfer are done. No 3.5mm jack or NFC here.

Honor 20 and 20 Pro will have a starting price of $560 and $670 respectively and will come with a free Huawei Watch Magic worth over $200 when it finally goes on sale.
