Huawei Y9s is a brand new smartphone from the Chinese smartphone which embodies almost if not all of the features you’d want in this year’s mid-range device.
This has a big 6.59-inch with no notch, under-display fingerprint sensor, Huawei’s Kirin 710F SoC and a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging.
It is also just a rebranded Huawei 9X Pro but with a less powerful albeit capable SoC, smaller RAM and of course, a smaller price tag. Let’s see what the Huawei Y9s brings to the table.

Huawei Y9s Design And Display
Huawei Y9s has a 6.59-inch IPS LCD display which covers basically the whole front of the device with its 19:9 aspect ratio and no notch. The front-facing camera is being housed by the motorized mechanism which pops up when the selfie camera is triggered and retracts when not in use.
Coming back to that displays, it has an FHD+ display with a 391 pixel per inch density and an impressive 84% screen-to-body ratio. The display is covered with a slab of glass. There is also another slab of glass at the back an aluminium frame.
The back of the device has a triple camera setup at the top left corner with an LED flash underneath. The fingerprint sensor is positioned at the side of the device which also doubles as the power button. Above that are the volume rockers.
Speakers, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm jack are at the bottom. Overall the device weighs 206grams, measures 8.8mm in thickness and comes in two colours only; Midnight Black and Breathing Crystal. It also uses a Hybrid SIM so you can add more storage at the expense of losing one SIM slot.
Huawei Y9s Camera Review
In the camera department, we have a total of 4 on this device. Three cameras are at the back while one is at the top of the device in the motorized compartment for selfies. Starting off with the selfie camera which is in the motorized pop-up mechanism, it is a single 16MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and HDR. It is also capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps.
The rear cameras comprise of a 48MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF, an 8MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.4 aperture and lastly, a 2MP depth sensor camera with f/2.4 aperture. Features of the rear camera include an LED flash, HDR and panorama. It can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps as well.
Hardware and Software
Huawei Y9s fitted this device with their very own Hisilicon Kirin 710F Chipset. This chipset which is based on the 12nm node has an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz alongside a Mali-G51 MP4 GPU which handles graphics. Apps multitasking are taken care of by the 6GB of RAM while files can be stored on the 128GB of internal storage.
This device uses a Hybrid SIM slot which means you can add more storage via a MicroSD card instead of a second SIM card. It can accommodate up to 512GB of additional storage. Huawei Y9s runs EMUI 9.1 out of the box which is based on the Android 9.0 Pie operating system.

Bringing this device to life is the 4,000mAh battery which supports fast charging of up 10W through its USB Type-C port. It also has 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, WiFi, WiFi direct, WiFi hotspot, GPS, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack.
