Mara X Specs, Features and Price

Mara X is an entry-level smartphone from the Rwandan based smartphone maker which source most of their parts locally.

The Mara X comes with a moderate 5.5-inch IPS LCD display, a Mediatek MT6739 SoC with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and runs Android 8.1 oreo. It also a single camera on the back and another at the front with a 3,5000mAh battery keeping the lights on. Let’s see what else this entry-level smartphone has in store.

Just as you would expect from an entry-level smartphone, the Mara X has a Plastic build which looks very good in Black, Gold and Grey which are the only three colours options available for this device.

Still at the back of the device, there is a single rear camera with an LED flash beside it and a fingerprint sensor where you would expect it to be; the centre of the device’s back above the mara logo.

Coming over to the front, we have a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display which is covered with a slab of 2.5D glass for protection. The display has a 720p HD+ resolution and uses the 18:9 aspect ratios which leave enough room at the top for the front-facing camera.

We have the volume buttons as well as the power on the left and right sides respectively while the microUSB, speaker and 3.5mm jack take the top and bottom part. Overall, this device weighs 152grams and measures 8.59mm.

Mara X Camera Review

Mara X has only two cameras; one at the back and another at the front for selfies. At the rear, we have a single 13MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps along with a host of other features. Some of these features include an LED flash, HDR, PDAF, portrait mode and night mode just to mention a few.

The selfie camera is a 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.2 aperture for portrait mode shots which can also record 1080p videos at 30fps as well. It features beauty mode to make your selfies pop and fixed focus to really focus on the objects you want.

Hardware and Software

Inside the Mara X is the Mediatek MT6739 SoC which has a Quad-Core processor clocked at 1.5GHz alongside a PowerVR GE8100 GPU for graphics. It has 1GB of RAM for multitasking through apps and to keep them running in the background along with 16GB of internal storage for all your files.

You can add more storage through the second SIM card slot which doubles as a microSD slot. This can accommodate up to 256GB of additional storage.

The Mara X is running the Go Edition of the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. It also comes without any skin slapped on top and has just the basic apps.

Battery and Connectivity

Battery capacity for this device stands at 4,500mAh with no fast charging. Speaking of charging, that is done through the microUSB port on this device which can also be used to transfer files.

This device also has 4G LTE connectivity, dual-band WiFi, WiFi direct, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack.

Mara X starts at 120,000 Rwandan Francs which is about $130.
