MediaTek is getting ready to release an incremental update to last year’s Dimensity 8000. The chip, dubbed Dimensity 8100, will allow higher frequencies and will be available on March 1st.
The information comes from notable industry insider Digital Chat Station, who claims that the 8100 is being released because its predecessor’s CPU frequencies were on the “conservative” side. The Dimensity 8000 is built on four Cortex-A78 (2.75 GHz) and four Cortex-A55 (2.0 GHz) CPU cores.

According to the naming method, the chip is in the upper mid-range, implying that such frequencies are truly sluggish. In comparison, the Dimensity 9000 has a top speed of 3.05GHz. Furthermore, the Dimensity 8000 employs older ARMv8 designs. While it’s uncertain that the Dimensity 8100 will introduce any design changes over the 8000, the frequency increases should result in improved performance.
Manufacturers are definitely aware of this, and according to DCS, some have even replaced Dimensity 8000 orders with Dimensity 8100. A new gadget based on the microprocessor is likely to be released as early as March of next year, about the same time when Dimensity 8000 devices were previously expected to be available. This suggests that MediaTek intends to replace the 8000 with the 8100 rather than selling them together, although this is only a theory.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8000’s AnTuTu benchmark score of 750,000 points outperformed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870, whose score averages around 700,000 points. As a result, the Dimensity 8100 will undoubtedly produce even higher results.
