MediaTek Helio P22 announced- New Premium Midrange Chipset

The new MediaTek Helio P22 has been announced by the Taiwanese chipset maker. According to MediaTek, the new P22 chip will power budget and midrange smartphones. The new chip is designed to offer amazing features to these devices like AI, dual cameras, and more.

The MediaTek Helio P22 might as well be the new premium chip in the smartphone market. However, we won’t be getting to see the new chips on smartphones till the third quarter of 2018. The new Helio P22 was announced yesterday, the chip will make midrange smartphones have almost the same features as high-end devices.

Yes, the P22 was created with 12nm manufacturing process technology, this is the first mid-range chip with a 12nm process technology. The P22 might get to compete in terms of power efficiency and overall features with Snapdragon 660 which has a 14nm manufacturing process. It comes with an octa-core processor with. Cortex-A53 CPU and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU.

The new chipset supports a display resolution of up to 1600 x 720, Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11ac Wi-Fi speeds, and LTE connectivity on up to two SIM cards. In terms of photography, the chipset can handle a single 21MP rear shooter or dual 13MP + 8MP setup. There’s are lots of improvements the chipset will add to the cameras as well. It offers multi-frame noise reduction, tweaked video stabilization, better low light shots, and improved digital zoom.

The P22 doesn’t come with AI silicon like the P60, however, there are improvements in terms of bokeh effects and the rest. Although the P22 seems like a budget chip with its features, the octa-core processor on it screams otherwise. Even though it supports up to 4K recording like 2016’s Helio P20, the 12nm process technology makes it more power-efficient. The chip will be perfect for ZTE Blade A-series, Lenovo’s K5 range, and other budget phones with HD+ 1440 x 720 pixels screen.

MediaTek also announced the new Helio P22 is still in production and would show up on devices by the third quarter of this year. It will revolutionise the way midrange smartphones get access to more high-end features and give consumers value for money. MediaTek also promised to change the way their SoC powered devices don’t get Android updates on time.
