Samsung just announced two new processors for their mobile devices. The new chipsets, with improved performance, are for their midrange phones, the Exynos 1380 and Exynos 1330.
Exynos 1380 Key Features
The Exynos 1380 is a 5-nanometer processor with four ARM Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz. It also has four ARM Cortex A55 cores clocked at 2 GHz. The chipset uses the Mali G68 GPU and can run devices with 1080p resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate. It is compatible with LPDDR4x and LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. There is an NPU that can compute 4.9 TOPS.
The Exynos 1380 has a triple ISP that supports up to 200MP cameras with zero shutter lag and 64MP resolution. It supports 4K recording at 30fps with EIS, and HDR, and support for real-time object recognition for better camera performance.
The processor is 5G enabled and supports the mmWave and Sub 6GHz network that can reach top download speeds of 3.67Gbps and 1.28Gbps upload speeds. GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GLONASS, and more are other features. The chipset is expected to be used on the Samsung Galaxy A54 but is yet to be released.
Exynos 1330 Key Features
The Exynos 1330 is also built on a 5-nanometer process, but it’s geared toward basic smartphones. It has two Cortex A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six Cortex A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the Mali G68 MP2 is the GPU. The processor supports 1080p resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.
It is compatible with LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 RAM chips and UFS 3.1, and even UFS 2.2 storage. The Exynos ISP supports up to 108MP cameras at 32MP resolution with minimal shutter lag. It can even work with dual 16MP cameras with zero shutter lags. The camera can capture 4K videos at 30FPS in HEVC, H.264, and VP8 codecs. It is the first entry-level chipset from Samsung with a built-in 5G modem capable of Sub 6GHz 5G networks.
The processor has download speeds of up to 2.55Gbps and upload speeds of 1.28Gbps. Other features include GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, GLONASS, and Wi-Fi 5. It will likely be the chipset powering the Galaxy A34 and A24 that will be available soon.
