TikTok Seems to be everywhere at the moment, and it might just be in your car next. The social media giant signed a partnership with Mercedes Benz, and it will be in the new Mercedes Benz E- Class that will hit the road before the end of the year.
The car will have an updated MBUX infotainment system, a precursor to Mercedes’s custom operating system called MB.OS. The new operating system by Mercedes is expected to be available in their next generation of cars, expected to roll out in 2024.
Although Mercedes also has a similar partnership with YouTube, TikTok signifies the presence of Mercedes in the Chinese market. The social media app will be available in the car in other markets, including the USA.
Mercedes Benz CEO Ola Kallenius, said, “it’s highly, highly relevant” when talking about TikTok in Asia. He also added that the age of an average S-class owner in china is around or below 40. “When we choose all these different apps, we go market by market or region by region, he stated. “We look at what is most used music or film, and we tried to go down that list.”
Mercedes Benz X TikTok More on the Patnership
The new MBUX system will feature a “superscreen” spread across the dashboard. It will allow drivers to click the TikTok app and watch videos when the car is parked. Passengers can also watch because a side of the screen will be dedicated to them.
The passenger screen will have a limited point of view which won’t allow the driver to watch videos being played on the passenger screen. A driver monitoring system will also monitor if the driver is watching.
Mercedes also adds zoom video conferencing, angry birds, Vivaldi web browser, and WebEx Cisco apps in the E-class infotainment system. There will be more apps, and they will add through a software update.
Mercedes and Google also announced a long-term partnership to give the German car manufacturer control over their IP and marketplace. They will offer drivers navigation, maps, and YouTube in the car.
