The Camon 12 Air will be the second time TECNO is introducing an Air version of its Camon devices. The first one was the Tecno CX Air which was released back in March 2017. The company kind of forgot about the Air lineup since then until now. The Tecno Camon 12 succeeds last year’s Camon 11.

Camon 12 and 12 Air
Both devices share the same design language. They sport a premium polycarbonate design that feels so premium when you hold it. Also, the front of both devices is protected with corny gorilla glass 3
The major difference in design is the positioning of their selfie cameras. The display of the Tecno Camon 12 features a waterdrop notch which houses its selfie camera.
While the display of the Camon 12 Air features a punch-hole selfie camera which Tecno calls “Dot-in”. Both Camon smartphone measures 8.7 mm thickness and weighs 179 grams.
The Camon 12 Air sports a 6.55 inches IPS LCD display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 263 PPI density.
While that of the Camon 12 is a 6.52 IPS LCD display with 720 x 1600 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio and 269 PPI density. On paper, there is a difference in the pixels resolution. But it is hard to note the difference in real life.
Hardware and Software
Underneath the Camon 12 and 12 Air is the MediaTek Helio P22 chip. An octa-core chipset built on 12 nm manufacturing process technology and feature PowerVR GE8320 GPU.
The memory configuration of the Camon 12 Air is 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage. While the Camon 12 is 4GB RAM paired with 64GB internal storage. Both the Camon 12 and Camon 12 Air runs on HiOS 5.5 skin based on the latest Android 9.0 Pie.
Camera
The Camon 12 shows why it is the bigger siblings as it comes with a triple camera setup of 16 + 8 + 2MP sensors. While the Camon 12 Air features the same 16MP main sensor combined with 5 & 2MP sensors.
For selfies, the Camon 12 is equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera while the Camon 12 Air sports an 8MP camera. Both smartphones come with the latest AI camera beautifying features.
Battery
Both Camon smartphones have the same non-removable Li-Ion 4,000 mAh battery capacity and support fast charging. The version or watts of the fast charging is not specified by the company. But you can expect less than 2 hours to fully charge.
Price
The Tecno Camon 12 starting price is N47,000 Naira in Nigeria while the Camon 12 Air has a starting price of N42,000.
Verdict
