Xiaomi’s 15 Ultra could boast a 200MP telephoto camera offering 4x optical zoom

Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro models in China, with a debut scheduled in October. These will purportedly be the world’s first gadgets to run the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. Following that, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, with the same chipset and improved camera functions, is expected to be released in the first half of 2025.

A recent leak from notable tipster Ice Universe has shed light on the camera capabilities of the forthcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The leaked information suggests the device will feature a quad-camera setup, differentiating it from the rumored triple-camera units of the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro.

Two of the 15 Ultra’s camera’s standout features are its 200-megapixel resolution, achieved by using a periscope telephoto camera, and its telephoto lens with a 4x optical zoom. The tipster claims that users of Xiaomi cameras should anticipate significant enhancements to the camera’s zoom range and adaptability when taking pictures from various perspectives.

Further leaks have revealed additional specifications for the 15 Ultra. The device is expected to feature a dual-layer OLED panel with 2K resolution and an ultrasonic on-screen fingerprint sensor. It will reportedly run on HyperOS 2.0, based on Android 15.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-powered Xiaomi 15 Ultra is speculated to come with up to 24 GB of RAM and may house a sizable 6,200mAh battery. While the 15 Pro variant might not see a global release, both the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra are expected to be available worldwide.
