Tecno Unveiled the latest device from their R&D labs, and it’s a rollable concept smartphone tagged the Tecno Phantom Ultimate. It expands sideways, increasing the screen size from 6.55 to 7.11 in less than 3 seconds. The concept phone is the second from the brand, and they even share some similarities in terms of design.
It comes with a single-drive motor that expands at the click of a button. The button is located on the top right side of the phone, and the extra screen sits at the back. It is also an always-on display at the back, showcasing the time and date.
The display is a 7.11-inch, 7.11-inch on-cell LTPO AMOLED display with 2296 x 1596 pixel resolution and 388 PPI. It has 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, although the numbers might be challenging since it’s a concept device.
The Phantom Ultimate is 9.93 mm thick, and Tecno also emphasized that it is easy to hold with one hand. It has a protective glass at the back that shields the sliding area and textured back for better grip. The Tecno Phantom Ultimate is only a concept phone, and we can’t say if it will be available.
Rollable phones might have a place in the future, but we have yet to cross that boundary of making them publicly available. Technological limitations must be overcome before phones like that can go public.
