Huawei Nova 4 vs Galaxy A8s: Specs and Price

The Samsung Galaxy A8s and Huawei Nova 4 are the first and second smartphones to debut with the much-talked-about in-display camera respectively.

Both devices arrived not long and it seems the in-display camera is going to be a trend we will be seeing a lot in the coming years but first, let the first two pioneers battle it out. Both devices here, asides from the in-display camera, have some pretty decent specs and features so let’s see who wins this.

Design & Display

Huawei Nova 4 sports a 6.4-inch Full Screen 1080p display with no notch and of course, the camera hole taking its place on the Screen at the top left side. At the back is a triple camera setup with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor in the middle.

Huawei Nova 4 feature

Samsung Galaxy A8s also has a 6.4-inch 1080 display with a camera hole in the same spot – the top left corner. At the back is also a triple camera setup with an LED flash.

Huawei nova 4 measures 7.8mm in thickness, weighs 172 grams and comes in colours Blue, Red, Black and White while Samsung Galaxy A8s measures slightly less at 7.4mm but weighs slightly bigger at 173 grams with Blue, Gray and Green as the colour options available.

Hardware & Software

Huawei Nova 4 is equipped with Kirin 970 SoC which combines an octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz with a Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. Samsung Galaxy A8s, on the other hand, utilises a Snapdragon 710 SoC which is equipped with 8 processing cores but clocked at 2.2GHz paired with an Adreno 616 GPU. Both devices come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

However, the Samsung Galaxy A8s has a 4GB RAM Variant, also with 128GB of inbuilt storage. Again, Both storage is expandable via the MicroSD card slot up to 512GB.

Both devices are rocking the latest Android 9.0 Pie Operating System out of the box with their respective skins on top; EMUI for Huawei Nova 4 and Samsung Experience For the Galaxy A8s.

Camera

Let’s start with the much-talked pin-hole camera on both devices. Surprisingly, both devices use a 20MP camera with f/2.0 which can record 1080p videos at 30fps (gyro-EIS).

At the rear is where things are different, Huawei Nova 4 has a has three cameras; a 48MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture with PDAF, a secondary 16MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and a third 2MP depth sensor camera with f/2.4. The cameras are equipped with an LED flash, HDR, and Panorama and can even record 4k and 1080p videos at 30fps tops.

Samsung Galaxy A8s is also equipped with 3 cameras at the rear, it comprises a 24MP main camera with f/1.7 aperture and PDAF, a secondary 10MP camera with AutoFocus and a 5MP depth sensor camera with f/2.2 aperture. As usual, the camera packs an LED flash, HDR and Panorama. Video recording stays at 30fps for 1080p. On paper, the Nova 4 camera is better than that of its rival.

Battery & Connectivity

Huawei Nova 4 has a higher 3,750mAh battery capacity compared to the 3,400mAh on the Samsung Galaxy A8s. Of course, both devices are equipped with fast charging for quick top-ups. Other features on both devices include 4G LTE, (Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP, EDR, LE and aptX HD on Nova 4) (Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP, LE and EDR on Samsung Galaxy A8s). Both devices also have WiFi, WiFi direct, WiFi hotspot, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS. There is also the latest USB Type-C on both devices for file transfer and charging.

Samsung Galaxy A8s also doesn’t have a 3.5mm jack while Huawei Nova 4 does.

Price

Both devices were just unveiled not long ago with the official prices not yet out but merely looking at the specifications of both devices and what they have to offer, my choice would be the Huawei Nova 4.

Both devices are however similar in so many ways, the Same screen size, the same amount of camera etc. Which will you choose? Let us know in the comment section down below.
