Pixel 9 Pro Fold Lacks Key Camera Features Found in Cheaper Pixel 9 Pro Models

Google has introduced four new smartphones in its Pixel 9 series: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. While the new lineup brings several enhancements, the most expensive model, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, falls short in some key camera features compared to its non-folding counterparts.

The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are equipped with an upgraded version of Video Boost, first seen in the Pixel 8 series. This includes AI-powered 8K upscaling for 4K videos and Super Res Zoom Video for 20x lossless video recording. However, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, despite its premium price tag, does not include these advanced features.

Instead, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers HDR Plus video, Night Sight video, and faster processing speeds for Video Boost. Still, it lacks the 8K upscaling and Super Res Zoom available on the other Pro models.

Starting at $1,799—$800 more than the Pixel 9 Pro and $700 more than the Pixel 9 Pro XL—consumers might expect the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to feature the full range of camera capabilities. However, due to its different camera hardware, the Fold model is missing some of the top-tier features. For those seeking the best in Google’s camera technology, the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL might be the better choice.
